Overview

7 Compass (“the app”) is a compass utility. We respect your privacy. The app does not have user accounts, does not show ads, does not use analytics or trackers, and does not send your data to any server operated by us. Almost everything happens on your device.

Information the app accesses

• Location (GPS), when you grant permission. Used to show your current elevation and coordinates, to convert magnetic north to true north (magnetic declination), and to look up a readable place name for your location.
• Device motion sensors (magnetometer and accelerometer). Used to compute the compass heading and the spirit level. These readings are processed on your device in real time and are not stored or transmitted.

How your location is used and shared

• Your coordinates are used on the device for the compass, elevation and level features. We do not keep a history of where you have been.
• To display a place name, your coordinates are sent to your operating system’s geocoding service (Google Play services on Android, Apple on iOS). This lookup is handled by the platform and is subject to Google’s or Apple’s privacy policy. We do not receive or store the result beyond showing it on screen.
• We do not sell or share your location with advertisers or other third parties.

Data storage

Your preferences (theme, units, north reference, dial style, etc.) are stored locally on your device only. The app keeps no remote database and creates no profile about you. Location is used transiently and is not logged.

Permissions

On Android the app requests precise and approximate location (ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION, ACCESS_COARSE_LOCATION); on iOS it requests location “while in use”. Motion sensors require no permission. You can deny or revoke location access at any time in your system settings — the compass and level still work; only elevation, coordinates and the place name become unavailable.

Children

The app is suitable for general audiences and does not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the app evolves. Material changes will be reflected on this page with a new “Last updated” date.
